Foyce was a graduate of East Side High School in Menifee, Arkansas and completed two years of post-graduate studies at AM&N (Agricultural, Mechanical, & Normal College) in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He later moved to Kansas City, MO and worked for Bendix Corporation for five years, before transitioning to KCATA (Kansas City Area Transportation Authority), where he retired from with over 30 years of employment.
Foyce was the eldest son of eight siblings. Shortly after being introduced to his elder sister, Trish, she pointed a chubby finger at her new baby brother and said, “boy!” Foyce would go on to answer to that loving moniker for the rest of his life. Throughout his life, he would go on to earn several other endearing nicknames such as “Pops, Floyd, Foy Cee, and Strick.”
Foyce was most content when he could be outside. He took great pride in the tomatoes and cucumbers he grew each summer. He also enjoyed working in his yard. Foyce was an avid bowler, once bowling a perfect game of 300. He also played his guitar which he found relaxing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two younger brothers: Don A. Strickland of Little Rock, AR and Rickey P. Strickland of Memphis, TN.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories and celebrate his life: his loving wife, Karen E. Gentry-Strickland; one son, Foyce Strickland Jr. of Raymore, MO; three daughters, Torri A. Sigars (Rodney) of Kansas City, MO; Tammy Y. Nelson of Tampa FL; and Mariah N. Welch of Kansas City, MO; four sisters, Trish Stoudamire of Omaha, NE; Charletta Holloway (Frank) of Memphis, TN; Lin Strickland of Little Rock, AR; Mechelle Thompson of Conway, AR; and one younger brother, Gary W. Strickland of Menifee, AR; and a former spouse Treva M. Strickland of Kansas City, MO.
Foyce also leaves seven grandchildren, loving aunts, uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. We love you Foyce, and you will live on in our hearts and memories forever.
A Visitation for Foyce will be held Wednesday, August 17, from 10:00am to 11:00am at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00am AM.
