Frank was born in 1930 to Anne Marie and Stephen Swendrowski, in Leavenworth, Kansas. He was a third generation immigrant to the United States, and of Polish and Czechoslovakian descent. Most of his family settled in Leavenworth, KS where he was baptized and raised Roman Catholic.
As a young boy in Leavenworth, he and his Uncle Charlie spent most of their time having fun and getting into trouble. One story Frank told about himself was about playing on the banks of the Missouri river. One hot summer day he and Charlie came upon a cabinet and locked themselves inside that cabinet. Their frantic struggle to get out attracted the attention of a stranger who came and saved them. Frank always said he was sure they were going to die that day inside that hot cabinet. God had other plans. When not getting into trouble, he worked under his dad in a Safeway Grocery Store on the Plaza. He enjoyed this position, filling in where he was needed.
He raised the funds needed to go and graduate from De La Salle Military Academy. He was extremely proud of his education and the respect he gained from going to the De La Salle.
Frank enlisted in the United States Air Force, his first tour was through Châtelain, France. He wrote letters back to his wife consistently. He was married to the love of his life, Dee, for 59 years and raised 4 children with her.
He loved spending time with his family, gardening with his wife, enjoying his sweets, music, and golfing with his friends. He was a quiet, strong, and wise man, always there to offer support or share a story.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anna Marie; his wife Dee, and stepdaughter Pamela Gabel.
He is survived by his sons, Steven and Mark; his daughters, Teresa and Lisa, stepson, John VanAlst and many grandchildren.
