George A. Kolias, 86, of Leawood, KS, left this life on Friday, September 22, 2017, to go to Marine Barrack Heaven. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 30, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO.
George was born December 8, 1930 in Kansas City, MO to Lorean and Andrew Kolias. He graduated from Southeast High School in 1948, then joined the Marine Corps, which molded his character until the day he died. He married Eleanor Carstensen in 1954 and enjoyed 57 years of marriage until her passing in 2011. George spent 40 years at Trans World Airlines where he made many life-long friends, and enabled his family to travel the world.
George was a life member of Marine Corps League #766 and Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of TWA Old Timers, TWA Museum, Elks Club, 1st Marine Division Association, and spent 11 years volunteering at Save-A-Connie.
He leaves behind his daughter Lisa (Jeff) Cooper, beloved granddaughter Katie Cooper of Leawood, KS, sister Patsy (Bill) Crotty, a niece and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the TWA Museum, 10 NW Richards Road, Suite 110, Kansas City, MO 64116 to honor his tenure with TWA.
