

Gilbert A. Novak, 84, of Kansas City, MO passed away peacefully February 25, 2015. Gilbert was born April 12, 1930 the son of Edward and Anne (Norby) Novak. On April 8, 1967, Gilbert married Donna M. (Walker) Novak. They shared 48 years of marriage together. He graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1948. He graduated from Kansas City Junior College. He served his Country in the United States Air Force. He received his Masters degree from University of Kansas. He worked with his father at their own business for many years. They lived and worked together at the Mockbee Farm. He was a member of the Architects Institute of America, he was a Frank Lloyd Wright scholar. Gilbert worked for the Kansas City Water Service Department from 1997-2010.
He was a founding member of the Kansas City Bonsai Society and a former president of the Society. He had traveled to many sites of Bonsai arboretums including many gardens in Japan. Gilbert was a very intelligent man with a sharp wit and sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Novak; three daughters, Laura Novak Knight, Laurie Behymer and Linda Litton; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Jessica and Michael.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 11 am until service time at 12 pm at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Burial will follow.
The family suggest memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, Myeloma Foundation or Spay Neuter Kansas City.
