Gregory Edward Thompson, born August 20, 1960, in Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on April 28, 2026. Greg made Louisburg, Kansas his home beginning in 2015, quickly becoming a valued neighbor and a friendly, familiar presence throughout the community.
Greg graduated from the University of Kansas in 1982 with a degree in engineering, a milestone he carried immense pride in throughout his life. He went on to build a distinguished 37 year career as a mechanical engineer with Allied Signal/Honeywell, where his skill, precision, and problem solving instincts earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike.
A man of many passions, Greg was an expert car mechanic and a devoted classic car restorationist. Within the Corvette community, he was affectionately known as “The Antenna Guy” for his unmatched ability to restore 1965–66 Corvette antennas. His beloved 1966 Corvette earned the prestigious Duntov Award, once described as “The standard to which other Corvette restorations should be judged.” He also loved the thrill of his Hayabusa motorcycle, the excitement of horse racing, and the quiet joy of reading—especially anything related to WWII history. Greg’s deep patriotism and love for the United States were constants in his life.
Greg was known for his ornery streak, sharp sarcasm, and a good natured sense of humor that made every gathering brighter. To his nieces and nephews, he was lovingly known as “Uncle Pussy Cat,” a nickname that captured his playful spirit. And at home, he shared a special, tender bond with his wife — Greg called her “Flower,” and he was her Honeybee, a reflection of the deep love and devotion they carried through their life together.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Thompson; his sons, Vance Thompson and Curtis Thompson; and his grandchildren, Micah Delap and Luka Thompson, who brought him endless pride and joy. He is also survived by his sisters, Ann Iiams and Jane Thompson. Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Donna Thompson, and held a special lifelong love for his grandmother, Willie “Billie” Wyatt, known to him simply as Granny.
Greg’s legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the community he embraced, and the countless people whose lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and unmistakable spirit.
