
Harriett Smith, age 86, passed away peacefully October 12, 2015 at Villa St. Joseph nursing home in Overland Park, KS. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, October 20th at the Church of the Nativity at 11900 Mission Road, Leawood, KS with burial following at Mt Moriah Cemetery. There will be a luncheon at Christ the King Church, 85th & Wornall after the burial service. Visitation (beginning with a short prayer service) will be held at Mt Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, October 19. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
Harriett was born on July 21, 1929 in Quinter, KS. She was the first child in her family to graduate from high school. She interrupted her Nurses Training after meeting and marrying Albert (Al) Smith in 1948. She was a loving mother to five children, a loving sister to twelve brothers and sisters and celebrated many nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. After raising her own five children, she returned to Nurses Training and became a Registered Nurse – working at St. Joseph's hospital until she retired in 1987.
Harriett was well known for her devoted caring & nurturing service to Christ the King Catholic Church, the Center School District, Boy Scouts, and Parents of Murdered Children.
She was preceded in death by husband Al, daughter Terri and son Ken Smith. She is survived by sons Gary and Bob and daughter Kathryn Smith.
