Helen was born, November 30, 1923 in Currie Minnesota to George and Justina Kreucher. She was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Navy. It was during this time that she met and married the love of her life, David T. Jones on November 30, 1946. Helen was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. She was an active and dedicated member of Holy Cross Catholic Church where she was a member of the Choir and the Lady’s Auxiliary. While at Holy Cross, she taught CCD classes to the children of the parish, preparing them for their First Holy Communion and First Confession. In her later years, she was a parishioner at St. Joseph the Worker and most recently St. Patrick’s church. When David retired, together, they volunteered at the VA Hospital, delivering the Holy Eucharist to the sick and volunteered at the Holy Cross Food Pantry.
Helen shared 70 years of marriage with her husband David. She demonstrated to her children and grandchildren what true love and marriage was. She always wanted David to know how important he was to her. Every day before he came home from work, she would comb her hair and touch up her makeup for him. She would tell her daughters, “I took time to make myself look nice for him when we were dating, so why wouldn’t I make sure I looked nice for him after we were married.” Anyone who knew them could see the way they looked at each other and enjoyed their humor with each other. During David’s last days, she never left his side, holding his hand, not letting go until he left this world.
Helen taught her children and grandchildren what a mother and grandmother is. For her, there was no greater joy in life then her family. No matter how busy she was, she was always present for her family. She would stop what she was doing to help them through a difficult time, but mostly to enjoy the moment and laugh with them. Her door was always open to her family and friends.
The most important things in Helen’s life were her God, her family and her country. It was most fitting that in her final hour, as her children held her hand, after the last of the fireworks were heard and the last prayer of the Rosary was said, she took her final breath and left this world to be reunited with her husband she so missed.
As she would always say, “See you later Alligator, after while crocodile.”
And to you our sweet sister, mother, grandmother and friend, “Fly high Butterfly”.
