Helga was a survivor of the heavy bombing of Hamburg in 1943. After the bombing, she lost her home and lived with her Grandmother on a farm in Saxony, Germany, to escape the rest of the war. Helga returned to Hamburg in 1949, where she finished her schooling and became a dental assistant. Helga got married on November 3, 1956, to Helmut. After they got married, they moved to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada as immigrants. In 1964, Helmut, Helga, and their daughters moved to the United States. They came to Kansas City, Missouri, and after a couple of years, settled in Independence, Missouri, where she lived until she passed away. She enjoyed the neighborhood they lived in and had several hobbies, including traveling with her husband and family as well as china-painting with her friends.
Helga is preceded in death by her parents, her older sister, Waltraud, her brother, Ulli, and granddaughter, Nicole.
She is survived by her husband Helmut, two daughters Yvonne and Susanne, son-in-law Bill Newsome, and her son Manuel, daughter-in-law Eileen Mueller, and her granddaughters Kayla Mueller and Sierra Mueller.
A visitation will be held from 1-2 pm, service at 2 pm on Saturday, October 17, 2020, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, Missouri, 64133. Burial will follow in the Floral Hills Cemetery.
Donations can be made in her name to the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center or Crossroads Hospice in Independence, Missouri.
