Hendrina (Hennie) Warinner found peace with our Lord on October 18, 2011 at the age of 89 while surrounded by family. Hennie was born on May 9, 1922 to Jan Van Senden and Gertrudia Bruin in Java, East Indies and spent much of her young life in Oss, Holland and Shanghai, China. While in China, she spent several years in a Japanese internment camp during World War II before being liberated by Allied Forces in 1944. Upon returning to Shanghai, she met an American Air Force pilot, Robert Warinner, who became her husband and life partner for 58 years. Hennie loved life and people, and could bring a smile to anyone’s face with her gentle touch and caring personality. She was also an avid gardener and loved to make things grow with a lot of care and a little luck from the Lord. She was a military wife who became used to moving on short notice and was elated to finally settle in Kansas City in 1953. She devoted her life to her husband, children and grandchildren and found many great friends over the years to share life stories with. Her women’s circle could raise the roof off a house during their monthly social gatherings. Once her children left the home, she became a volunteer at St. Joseph Medical Center managing the gift cart for many years with her very dear friends Maya and Martha. In her later years, Hennie took to reading books, writing poetry and maintaining a journal of her travel through life. Her poems and journal are simply astounding and are considered priceless gifts left for her family to cherish forever. Hennie was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband, Robert L. Warinner in 2004, and her brother, John Van Senden in 1998. She is survived by her son, Jim Gauthier-Warinner with his wife Barbara (Interlochen, Michigan) and granddaughter Bridy (Brussels, Belgium), daughter Susan Schlacks with her husband Bill and grandchildren Danny Ginardi and Lisa Aipperspach (Kansas City, Missouri) , son Tom Warinner with his wife Beth (Kansas City, Missouri) and grandchildren, Jennifer Warinner (Kansas City, Missouri), John Warinner (Peculiar, Missouri) and Kelly Hogan (Parkville, Missouri), son Bill Warinner with his wife Candy (Overland Park, Kansas) and grandchildren Tina Warinner (Zurich, Switzerland) and Steven Warinner (San Diego, California), and daughter Jeannie Sivewright with her husband Randy (Wentzville, Missouri) and grandchildren Steven Sivewright (Wentzville, Missouri) and Shannon Sivewright (Springfield, Missouri). Hennie also leaves behind six great grandchildren, several generations of cousins and her best friend Martha Donnelly. She will be forever loved and remembered by her family and friends for the joy and comfort that she brought into our lives. A celebration of Hennie’s life is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 West 103rd Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66214. A visitation preceding the Celebratory Mass will commence at 4:30 p.m. at the same location. Hennie will be interred later in a private ceremony at Mount Moriah Cemetery at 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Compassionate Care Hospice of Kansas City for the excellent care provided to Hennie in her final month of life and to Santa Marta for the comfortable surroundings provided to Hennie in her final years of life. Condolences may be offered at www.mtmoriah-freeman.com. Arrangements under the direction of Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, Kansas City, MO.
