“Herbie” Meagher, with the luck of the Irish, departed this life at the “top of his game” quietly at home on Saturday, November 21, 2015. He was born to Herbert & Rose Adell Meagher, KCMO, December 22, 1931. The family will receive friends at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes, KCMO 64145, on Friday, Nov. 27 from 4-6pm with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 6pm.
Herb attended St. Therese Little Flower, graduated Rockhurst High School-1948, and received his B.S. degree from Rockhurst College. He was a member of the US Navy Reserve. Throughout his life, he was an active member of St. Francis Xavier, St. Peter’s, and St. Thomas More parishes. Herb was extremely generous with his time, energy, and money for friends, charities, and business/community organizations in Harrisonville, MO and KC. This was evident in his Catholic Church activities and serving as president of several organizations including Alpha Delta Gamma, Chamber of Commerce, Missouri Concrete Association, Concrete Promotional Group, and many more. Herb became an Eagle Scout in 1945 and returned to Osceola to attain Warrior status in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say at the age of 76 (2007). Herb was very fond of Lake Lotawana where he spent his summers growing up since the mid-1940’s, and he has preserved this tradition for his family. His legacy of family, faith, friends, and laughter will continue for many years at the Lake.
He was preceded in death in 2011 by his wife of over 50 years, Carolyn. “Bop” as nicknamed by his first grandchild, is survived by his son, Steven (Kelly) Meagher; his daughters, Chris (Brian) Calovich, and Kathleen (John) Rusgis, Jr.; his grandchildren: Mitchell, Molly, Reed, and Anna Meagher; Emily (Chris) Hansen, Jeff, and Kadie (Mike) Clifford; Jack, Matthew and Kelsey Rusgis; his brother, Michael (Cheryl) Meagher; his sisters Patricia (Kevin) Collins and Martha (Hugh) Downey; two great grandchildren Olivia & Leah Hansen; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Herb, with his integrity, gentle spirit, positive outlook, and never-ending generosity was everyone’s friend. One of his many special gifts was making each and every person feel like they were the most important person in the whole world to him.
