Dr. James R. Allan, 85, Kansas City, passed away December 13, 2013 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. A Celebration of Life will be 4-6 PM Tuesday, December 17th at the McGilley Antioch Chapel; cremation with burial of the urn and Military Funeral Honors will be in Shelbina Cemetery, Shelbina, MO. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception or a charity of choice.
James was born December 31, 1927 to Elmer and Frances Allan in Craig, MO, where he was raised. He was an Army veteran of World War II. James was a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, MO and then went on to attend the University of Missouri, Columbia and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, School of Medicine. Dr. Allan lived most of his life in the Kansas City area and practiced medicine for many years in the Liberty and Excelsior Springs area. Following retirement he continued to practice medicine up until his health prevented him from doing so. Dr. Allan was a member of various professional organizations and civic groups and was a man with many hobbies. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Dale and Kenneth Allan; and his former wife, Dorothy.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Kathleen Allan; 7 children, Lynn (Candace) Allan, Tom (Amelia) Allan, Janice (Frank) Racioppo, Julie (Tom) Baswell, Cindy (Eldon) Walter, Jennifer (Bruce) Hagedorn, and Leanne (Brian) Sullivan; 6 grandchildren, Eric Carlson, Brian Allan, Anne Kemberling, and Jake, Shea and Maggie Sullivan; and 4 great grandchildren, Tyler, Annabelle and Zander Kimberling, and Arlo James Carlson.
