JC Wilson, 90, of Kansas City, MO, passed away on April 29, 2025. Born on June 27, 1934, in Onia, Arkansas, JC moved to Kansas City at 19 years old for what was meant to be a temporary summer job at Armco Steel. But fate had other plans. He met Alma Lou Keyes when two of their friends arranged a double date—and it was love at first sight. JC proposed after just two weeks of dating, and they married six months later.
They made their home on Holmes Road, where JC would live for the next 60 years. That house became a place filled with cherished memories for his family. Backyard BBQs, Christmas chili parties, and other beloved traditions brought joy and warmth to the home, making it a beloved backdrop for decades of family milestones. JC remained closely connected to his Arkansas family and friends—especially his dear friend Allie Mae Gammill—and continued to subscribe to the Stone County Leader throughout his life to keep up with the community he grew up in.
A year ago, JC left his longtime home and moved next door to his daughter, Carla, in Shawnee, KS. His family is deeply grateful for that final year spent nearby. His presence brought daily comfort, and the time they shared together was a true gift.
JC proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during his draft service. After returning home, he began a long career as an appliance repair technician for Montgomery Ward, where he worked until retirement. He was known for his kindness, patience, and quiet generosity— qualities that extended well beyond his professional life. JC lovingly cared for Alma through many years of illness, and he had a gentle way of tending to everyone around him. Whether it was fixing a neighbor’s appliance, offering a ride, or simply sharing words of encouragement in hard times—he gave care in a hundred small, meaningful ways.
He loved to garden, especially vegetables and the roses he grew for Alma. Just this spring, he planted tulips at his new home with Carla’s help. Music was another lifelong joy. JC played entirely by ear and filled the house with songs on his guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, or harmonica.
He is survived by his daughter, Carla Sanders (Wilson) and her partner James Johnson; his granddaughters Jaime and Samantha Sanders, who lovingly knew him as “Pawie”; his brother, Una Wilson; sister, Florene Morrison; and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alma, and several siblings.
JC will be remembered for his love, grace, and integrity. But most of all, he’ll be remembered for how he quietly cared—for Alma, for his family, and for anyone lucky enough to be in his life.
Services for JC will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. A visitation will begin at 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM with the funeral service following from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
A committal service with full military honors will conclude services in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
The family invites guests to sign the online guestbook and share favorite memories or stories of JC. These remembrances will be treasured as lasting reflections of a life well-lived.
