

Joan Happy James, 85, died July 5, 2014. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Roger, her children, Andy (Laura), Evan (Joanie) and Karen (Kevin) McHugh; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Joan was born on July 7, 1928 to Glen and Rose Happy and graduated from Ottawa High School. She attended Kansas University, was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and graduated with a degree in Education. Joan and Roger raised their family in Prairie Village. Joan represented her beloved sorority serving as president of the Greater KC Panhellenic. She was president of the Johnson County Young Matrons, the 2nd District Kansas Federated Clubs and was twice president of La Sertoma. Joan was an active member of the Country Club Christian Church and the Tri-C’s Sunday school class. She served as a Life Elder, Secretary of the official board, and was president of CWF and Circle 17. Joan worked alongside Roger in helping to build the James Printing Co., eventually retiring in 1989. Most recently, Joan was a resident of Foxwood Springs, where she enjoyed numerous friendships and activities. The family wishes to thank Foxwood Springs and Crossroads Hospice for their loving care. A visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Monday, July 7, 2014 at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. Memorial services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Country Club Christian Church, 6101 Ward Pkwy, Kansas City, MO. 64113 followed by 1 PM burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Country Club Christian Church.
