Joan Marie (Bimbi) Tassi, 68, peacefully passed away Friday, October 25, 2019 at home in Overland Park, Kansas. A Rosary Service will be held at 5 pm on Tuesday, October 29 at Curé of Ars Catholic Church in Leawood, Kansas with visitation starting at 4 pm. Father Haganey will officiate the Funeral Mass at Curé of Ars on Wednesday, October 30 at 10:30 am. A luncheon at the church will follow.
Born February 2, 1951 in Boone, Iowa, Joanie was the second of four daughters to Roland and Betty Bimbi. She met her future husband in grade school and they started dating in high school. After graduating from Madrid Community High School in 1969 and Salvador Beauty College in 1970, she married Douglas Doyle Tassi on September 1, 1972. And they were off—first to optometry school for Doug in Chicago, where they welcomed their first son, Sean, then back to Iowa, where they welcomed their second son, Jason. The four of them then went on to Jackson (MS), St. Joseph (MO), Yakima (WA), Sioux Falls (SD), and finally Kansas City. Everywhere they went, Joanie made their house a home. She had a phenomenal feel for color and a classy sense of style. Joanie had a vision for making the ordinary extraordinary, and she had a talent for helping so many others do the same. She could wallpaper a bathroom in the morning, sew a couple of pillows in the afternoon, and cook a delicious meal, complete with dessert, in the evening. Joanie loved her whole family fiercely and she nurtured an incredible number of friendships. She was genuinely interested in what her husband, children, parents, sisters, in-laws, grandchildren, aunt, cousin, nieces, nephews, PEO sisters, and friends had to say—when you talked to Joanie, you felt as if she were walking right beside you. She celebrated your joys and grieved your losses. Joanie had an incredible energy for life and a firm faith in God. She laughed easily, knew how to have fun, and prayed often.
Joanie will be lovingly remembered by her husband Doug, son Sean (Elizabeth), sisters Cheryl (Steve) Gonseth of Urbandale, IA, Theresa (Randy) Carper of Parkton, MD, and Mary Lou (Mike) Killebrew of Windsor Heights, IA, and brother-in-law Mike (Cindy) Tassi of Madrid, IA. Her memory will also be cherished by her grandchildren Greta, Preston, and August, her nieces Valerie (Hassan Bethea) Bimbi, Natalie (Aaron) Gendle, Jessica (Clay) Davis, and her nephews Daniel (Megan) Carper and Kyle (Brittney) Sanger. Joanie was preceded in death by her son Jason, her parents Roland and Betty Bimbi, and her nephew Matthew Gonseth. The family is grateful for the exceptional care Joanie received from The University of Kanas Cancer Center, Catholic Community Hospice, and the Curé of Ars community. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial donation to the Sister Servants of Mary, who provided prayerful comfort to Joanie in the final hours of her life.
