Joan and my mother, Fern Coffin, had been the best of friends since the late 1940’s.  It’s my understanding that they met when my mother joined the Westport Presbyterian Church.  They continued their friendship well into their 90’s, but lost contact as they both became too old to travel and couldn’t drive anymore.  She always spoke highly of Joan and missed their lively conversations.  My mother died not long after Joan.  November 13, 2018.
