

John Mull, age 84, of Independence, MO, passed away on Monday, April 6. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend whose life was defined by love for his family, service to others, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara; his children Michelle Mull, Susan Nigro, David Zuiderhof (Karen), and Heather Smith (Jim); and his cherished fur companion, Rufus. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Rose Lee Mull, his father John Andrew Mull, his sister Andrea Mull, and his son Michael Zuiderhof.
John is also survived by his siblings Bob Mull (Connie), Michaelene Willman, and Kris Hembrough (Mike).
John was raised in Bethalto, Illinois, and later moved to Independence in 1963, where he built a life rooted in hard work and community. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter who especially enjoyed quail, pheasant, and deer hunting. He had a lifelong love of sports—both playing and watching—and greatly enjoyed golf.
John took great pride in his rose garden, carefully tending to his roses, and was a dedicated Corvette enthusiast. He retired after working at Mid Continent Insulation for more than 30 years.
A significant part of John’s life was his commitment to youth and service. He served as a Boy Scout leader for several years, cherishing the experiences and relationships built along the way. Among his favorite memories was his trip to Philmont Scout Ranch, an adventure he spoke of with pride.
John’s legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the love he shared with his family.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 7 at 11:00 a.m., at New Salem Cemetery,
1823 N. Blue Mills Road, Independence, MO 64058.
A private celebration of life for John’s family and close friends will be held following the graveside service.
