I have thought of so many things that I want to say about my Dad---written so many paragraphs in my head and my heart.  I will never know a finer man for the rest of my time here on this earth.  I am so privileged to have been his daughter--Dad taught me so many things--how important family is, how important love is, friendship, honor.  Dad taught me that there are no "little" jobs in this world--only "little" people.  He taught me it is important to stick to your guns for what you believe in--to never let anyone make you feel less than you are. I will miss him for all the days to come. I have been truly blessed to have had such a great man in my life!

Uncle Joe was always larger than life for me.  I always looked up to him because he was so much taller than I, but also because he was always so good to me.

At Christmas time, he always chose something for me that I liked, although it came as a surprise to me.  Of course, Christmas and Thanksgiving were times when I watched the men of the family from a distance.  Children were seen but not heard in those days.

During the war years Uncle Joe was one of my heroes.  I remember the service flag in Grandma's window with the two blue stars--his and Uncle Bill's.  We were so happy that those stars stayed blue until the end.

I appreciated Uncle Joe keeping up with the sports programs at our small college.  He told me that he looked for me at the NAIA tournaments, but I was never able to come.

I will never forget how kind he was to me when my mother passed away.  I couldn't make it home before she died, but Uncle Joe had visited her and he told me that she did not respond to him or his questions.  He let me know, without saying so, that if I had made it home, she wouldn't have known.

I especially enjoyed my last phone conversation with him.  It brought back so many memories.

I remember Mr Fowler from any and all sporting events of our youth. By his presence and approval you knew you were where you belonged and doing what you were supposed to be doing. I miss those days. How could I not?

My dad was a great dad and PaPa to his grandkids. He helped raise our 3 kids (Stephen, Ryan and Lora) along with my mom while I was in graduate school-those memories are with our children forever. Dad enjoyed sitting on the front porch with his radio on listening to different games during the nice weather. He took the kids to the NAIA games every year and basically camped out during the tournament. He never forgot a Christmas card, Valentine card or Birthday card for my mom. I never will forget the story he told when he and his brother Jim went trick and treating and knocked on a door and he heard the woman in the background ask her husband who was at the door and her husband told her, "they're grown men" He loved his coupons and looked for every dime he could save.
Dad always had a story to tell and 
a smile on his face. He made all of us proud and made an impact in every life he touched through his work or through coaching at Our Lady of Good Council, Redemptorist, Guardian Angels, or Bishop Lillis High School.

I fell privliged and honored to have known such a honorable and stoic man. He taught me the true value of family. My great uncle Joe was one of the few men left that always put everyone else first. Our family has lost a true patriarch, may we all remember the lessons and values he instilled upon us.The kingdom is truly blessed with his homecoming. God bless us all as we deal with such a great loss, and may we lead our lives with logic and empathy as he would have wanted. Love and blessing to all my family, and GOD speed Uncle Joe.

It has been about 55 years ago when we first met at Wilson's. I have enjoyed your company and phone calls talking about old times and all the sports.  I will really miss that. Your memory of the "old" folks at Wilson's was remarkable.  Take care in Heaven my friend.

Uncle Joe,

While I did lose track of you, in the forty plus years since I left Kansas City, I do have fond memories of you, Viola, and your children.  I can still remember your picture in uniform on the mantle in grandma Fowler's house, and the stories you used to tell about your time on Quam in WWII--forgive me if I got this part wrong.

I remember you, Viola, taking such good care of me in St Joseph's hospital almost sixty years ago.  Remember how possessive I became over you with my room mate?  I just figured you were my private nurse.

I know my mother is smothering you with kisses now, and I remember you each time I sign my full name, as I am your namesake.
