Joseph, a lifelong Catholic, was born in the Village of Zane, Poland on December 14, 1935 to Adolf Wiercinski and Adela (Pisarczyk) Wiercinski. The youngest of four children, he and his family were detained as forced laborers in Frankfurt, Germany when he was a child during World War II. Once liberated, the family spent time at a displaced person’s camp in Wildflecken Municipality, Germany until they immigrated to Studley, Kansas in 1950. Joseph became a naturalized citizen of the United States on September 5, 1956. He married Callie Bernice (Miller) Wiercinski in 1957, and they remained married for 64 years until her passing.
During his time in encampments, he witnessed a man putting together a make-shift stove burner using coiled wire and clay. This left a lasting impression on him and influenced his decision to become an electrician. He was a proud member of IBEW Local 124 and retired after 43 dedicated years as an electrician.
Joseph was a dynamic and spirited dancer, sweeping his dance partner off her feet as they twirled to polka music. He loved telling stories and entertaining his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with his tales and family games. Spending hours in his vegetable and flower gardens was what he most enjoyed. He approached his gardening with the same hard work ethic that he instilled in all his children.
He leaves behind his children, Kathy Fenstermaker (Ken), David Wiercinski (Nancy), Janet Elwell (Gerald) and Steven Wiercinski (Michelle); Fourteen Grandchildren and Twenty Three Great-Grandchildren.
He is finally at rest and at peace and will always be loved and remembered.
Graveside services will be held at Floral Hills – DW Newcomer’s Cemetery at 10am on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
