Josephine was born in Kansas City, MO, on June 7th, 1929 to Rosa and Salvatore (Sam) Cropis. She was the youngest of seven children, all of whom preceded her in death.
Josephine graduated from Northeast High School and would go on to become the co-founder of Jasper's Italian Restaurant and Marco Polo's Italian Market. She married the love of her life, Jasper J. Mirabile, Sr. on September 30, 1953 and the two began creating their family shortly after and, over the years, were blessed with four sons.
Josephine was a loving wife, mother, nani, great-nani and friend to all who knew her. While raising her boys, Josephine managed to, not only take care of the books and charge accounts at Jasper's until the late 80’s, she also fostered her love for baking, creating her most delectable and famous ‘cream puffs’ and cakes which are still served in the restaurant today. On many nights, you could find her sitting at the head of their ‘Family Table’, greeting all those who walked past.
Josephine’s sons were not the only children fortunate enough to experience her love and kindness over the years, as she became like a second mother to many others throughout her lifetime. While in the restaurant industry, a great number of people were fortunate enough to get to know Josephine, including the many employees that would testify of the great mark she left on their lives.
As Josephine grew older, she continued to build amazing relationships with her nurses, doctors, caretakers, and neighbors in her community.
Josephine is survived by her sons and their wives, Leonard Mirabile (Janine), Salvatore Mirabile (Marla), Dr. James Mirabile (Vicki), and Jasper Mirabile, Jr. (Lisa); her grandchildren, Jasper Mirabile, III (Jennafer), JoMarie Soden (Travis), Christina Knopke (Michael) Jovana Mullins (Brandon) of New York, NY, Nicole Mirabile of New York, NY, and Alexandra Spivey (Jordan, Lt., USN) of Jacksonville, FL; her great-grandchildren, Paul, Jordon, Mariana, Nicholas, Leonard, Sofia, Salvatore (Sammy), Sutton Pearl, Jack, and Jasper, IV.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper, her parents Rosa and Salvatore Cropis; sisters Virginia DiMaggio (Ross), Lee DiMaggio (Fred), Clara Licata (Pete), Jenny Vento (John); brothers Victor Cropis (Mary) and Tony Cropis (Helen).
Josephine also leaves behind all of her nieces and nephews as well as their children, grandchildren and the many friends she created over the years.
In Josephine’s loving memory, we would like to thank everyone that open heartedly took care of her as she grew older, including her niece Marilee DiMaggio, friend Anthony Mendolia, the staff at The Atriums, Fr. Rick Storey, and her lifelong friends Molly Civella, Rose Moretina (deceased), Vita Ann Cascone, Gloria Pizzichino and so many others.
