Juanita F Garcia, 90,Gladstone, passed away passed peacefully at home on January 13, 2014. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 18 at St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 900 Shady Lane, Kansas City, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call Friday January 17, from 5:00 to 8:00 at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 Vivion Road, Kansas City, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00.
Juanita was born August 18, 1923 in Topeka, Kansas to Juan and Epitacia Florez. In 1940, she married Miguel Garcia. They moved to Kansas City in 1943 and enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage together. They were Christian world travelers, including visits to Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Lourdes and the Medjugorie Shrine in Yugoslavia. In addition, Juanita rode camels in Egypt and took many trips to see friends in South America.
Juanita was very active in her church, she belonged to the St Charles Bible Study Group, The Friendly Club and was a Eucharist and hospital minister for St Charles, she had many church friends who will miss her beautiful smile.
Juanita is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, two sisters and two grandchildren, Phillip Ortega, Sr. and Benjamin Ortega, Jr. Survivors include: son, Michael (Sylvia) Garcia of Gladstone; daughters Maria Elena (Aurelio) Magana of Argentine, KS; Christina (Arthur) Florez of Gladstone; Mary Ann Trujillo of Gladstone; and Carolyn (Benjamin) Ortega of Kansas City, 18 grandchildren 53 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers Thomas Florez and Christopher Florez of Fredonia, KS and a sister, Valentina Zacharias of Pittsburg, KS.
As a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great–great-grandmother she leaves behind a wonderful legacy of children that loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers, sisters-in-law and sister.
