

Katherine Iola Johnson was born in Lexington, Missouri on December 6th, 1925 to Emma Lee (Estes) and Benjamin Johnson Sr. Katherine was the oldest of eight siblings. While living in Lexington, she was a member of Second Baptist Church where she accepted Christ at a young age. In 1943 Katherine graduated from Douglas School. Upon her graduation, Katherine lived in Cleveland, Ohio for a short while prior to moving to Kansas City, Missouri where she eventually made her home.
In 1954 Katherine, married Alonzo Slaughter Sr. and to their union one daughter, Cynthia, was born. In 1955 she began a career at KU Medical Center and retired as a supervisor in the Dietary Department in 1991. Katherine was a long time and active member of Central Christian Church. In her spare time she enjoyed baking, arranging flowers, sewing and enjoying her flower garden.
Katherine was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Alonzo Sr., step-son Alonzo Jr., sisters Emma Lee Brooks and Charlotte Smith; brothers Benjamin Johnson Jr., Emmett Johnson and Barney Johnson.
To morn her passing Katherine leaves behind her daughter Cynthia Weatherspoon, step-daughters Rosalee Watkins and Betty Jane (Leonard Jr.) Wesley, grandson Damon (Carolyn) Weatherspoon, one great-granddaughter Sarena and sisters Amelia Barnes, Betty Johnson, Celestine Johnson and a host of friends, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 10 at Central Christian Church, 3801 East Linwood Boulevard, Kansas City, Missouri; viewing 10:00 a.m. and funeral at 11:00 a.m. Burial in Mt.
