Kathleen Young

Kathy was born in Chicago to Edward and Paulene Power (Pelletier) on November 28, 1947. She was raised on the south side and attended parochial school, graduating from Visitation Parish High School in 1965. She then studied secretarial skills at a Chicago business school before joining the work force at age 18. She worked all her life as a secretary, specializing in legal work and word processing.

Kathy was an adventuresome young woman, going to England on a work visa in 1967 and staying with some of her father’s relatives in London. After a few years in England she returned to Chicago and worked in various law offices until a back injury caused her to undergo surgery. During her recuperation period she decided to visit her cousin Karen Matteson in New Orleans. It was there that she met her husband of 31 years, Bill and they were married in Chicago six months later and moved to St. Louis where they lived for 10 years.

Job changes for Bill caused them to move to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and then to Kansas City, Missouri in 1995 where they lived very happily until her passing. Kathy was employed at Husch Blackwell LLP and had many friends there. She made life long and lasting friends every where she lived and many of them are still very much a part of her life after decades.

Her passions were a love of playing Bridge, reading mystery novels, and watching British mystery movies and TV shows. She also had a great love of animals, cats in particular and was devoted to her pets, Finbar, Chipper and Ajacks.

Kathy was preceded in death by her father and mother, her sister Arlene Hensley and her niece Kim. She is survived by her husband Bill, nephew Myk Hensley, niece Debbie McWilliams, her great-niece Brandy Miller and numerous cousins.

A visitation and memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 1st, at McGilley State Line Chapel, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of the local animal charities, such as, Wayside Waifs, ASPCA or The Humane Society.
