Kirk James Saxton, 86, passed away Friday January 17, 2020 at his home in Independence, Missouri. He was born on February 3, 1933 in Kansas City, Missouri. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Martha Saxton, 3 children; Sherree Gorman, Mark Saxton, and Gayle Stanley; 8 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
In his early years, Kirk attended Northeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri graduating in 1951. After his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was in the military for 3 years during the Korean War serving in Germany. He married Martha in 1954. After the service he attended college on the G.I. Bill, graduating from University of Missouri at Kansas City with a Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics.
While in college, he worked at Bendix as an inspector. After graduating, he and his family moved to Colorado where he worked at Martin Marietta as a systems programmer. After 9 years in Colorado, he returned to Kansas City to be closer to his family. In Kansas City he worked at United Computing. Soon after, he changed his career focus to sales and commercial real estate in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, where he continued until his death. Additionally, he and Martha, built, owned and operated an executive offices complex known as Morningside Business Center.
Kirk stood out with his visionary imagination and creativity. This allowed him to keep busy by making and fixing things such as tables and chairs, small sailboats, go-karts, stilts, leather tooled gifts, and remodeling. He also had a love of cars, especially sports cars. He had an interest in sports and politics. He enjoyed traveling and camping. But his greatest passion and love was for his family. He leaves a legacy of family behind that truly loved him.
