LeRoy was born on April 28, 1934 in St. Francis, Kansas, the son of Elmer William and Sylvia Abigale (Worley) Felzien. He and JoAnn Hyder were married on February 11, 1956 in Chapman, Kansas, her home town.
Three sons, Craig, Mark and Jeff, were born into their young marriage and were their Mother's “little men” as Daddy went about his career. LeRoy served in the United States Air Force where he attained the rank of Captain. He was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Co, retiring as a Division Manager in 1985 after 30 years with the company. “Ma Bell” saw the family call 13 locations in Kansas and Missouri “home” in 13 years, then to settle in Kansas City for the last 50 years. Their sons received fine educations in the Raytown School System and went on successfully to college.
After retirement, LeRoy worked with agencies for the betterment of the community and eventually sought part time employment with Paramount Designs, a consulting firm. As a member of the Raytown Rotary Club for 35 years, service to the community was his goal. Blue Ridge Trinity Lutheran Church saw him as a devoted member of 50 years, a teacher of adult and youth Sunday School classes, Assistant Minister, Council Member and participant in the programs to further the mission of the church as Jesus commanded. LeRoy was a respected leader of Boy Scout Troop 469. He was a devoted Spiritual Leader to the youth in the scouting program. LeRoy accompanied his troop to summer camp for nearly 30 years at H Roe Bartle Scout Reservation where he served on Staff as Camp Commissioner and Chaplain. He was a Sagamore in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. LeRoy was very proud that his 3 sons and 4 grandsons attained the rank of Eagle Scout. His mission in life was to bring joy and knowledge of His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to everyone he met.
