

Leroy Quincy Spinks was born on August 16, 1936 to the Union of Blanche Harper Mosby and the late Earl Spinks in Winona, Mississippi. He was the third child born to this union. His early childhood was spent in Vaiden, Mississippi. He was fondly called by his family as L.Q. and Spinks by his friends. Quincy accepted Christ at an early age. His mother later moved him and his siblings to Louisville, KY, where he later became a member of Bates Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.M. Elmore. He later moved to Kansas City, MO, with his Uncle Joseph Harper where he completed his education with the Kansas City, MO School District. He later moved his membership to Cleveland Avenue Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Price Ellis where he served on the Deacon Board. Spinks was a very committed lifelong member of We Are One Alcohol Anonymous Organization for 33 years of sobriety. He also shared his sobriety testimony with many other Alcohol Anonymous groups which became a part of his lifelong ministry helping others in AA groups. He also worked for the Kansas City, MO School District from which he retired. Later taking on a part-time job from THE WALNUT BUILDING as a proud doorman later leaving because of health reasons. He also had various jobs in the Kansas City area. Quincy met and married Arletha Herndon and to this union no children were born. She preceded him in death; they were married 20 years. Later he met and married Lillian Ann Johnson, and to this Union he inherited 5 stepchildren who became Poppa Quincy to them. Siblings that preceded him in death were: Dorothy Spinks Carson, Howard Spinks, Rochelle Mosby White, Willie Spinks, and his Uncle George Harper. Left to cherish his love and memories: His devoted wife Lillian Ann Spinks; Mother Blanche Harper Mosby of Louisville, KY; one sister Harriette Pennington (Tommy) of Louisville, KY; his Uncle Joseph Harper of Kansas City, MO; his cousin James (Brother) Roberts, Jr. of Louisville, KY; five stepchildren Constance Terry (Steve), Maurice Gadson (Patricia), Eartha Byrd (Chuck), Reginald Gadson (Deborah) Lisa Ellis (George), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, a host of inherited grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and all of Kansas City, MO. Public visitation will be from 6:00-8:00p.m. June 1, 2012 at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012, followed by the funeral service at 11:00a.m., at the Cleveland Avenue Baptist Church, 2853 Cleveland Ave., Kansas City, MO 64128.
