Lorie was born on August 5, 1946, in Leavenworth, Kansas, to James and Thelma Lavery. She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, and attended Catholic Schools, graduating from Hogan High School in 1964.
Lorie started her first job as a court reporter but worked many jobs throughout her life, from waitressing to real estate. She always tried to find part-time jobs as her true passion was in the home taking care of her children. Her longest and favorite career was as the activities director for a senior living facility, where she balanced her work with watching over her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She met her husband, Steven Stroh Senior, in 1966. It was love at first sight as he pulled around in a 1963 Corvette for their first blind date. They had their first child, Stacey, in 1967 and were blessed with a second child, Steven Jr., in 1969. They were married in 1966 on Lorie's 20th birthday and were married for 22 years before his passing on Steven's 44th birthday in 1988.
Lorie loved crochet, and anytime she was sitting, you would find a project in her hands. During her daughter's chemotherapy, she crocheted eight full-sized blankets over the course of six weeks, never leaving her daughter's side. She loved taking her grandchildren to the park and feeding them her signature dish, biscuits and gravy, whenever they were hungry. She was the greatest host of the holidays, making every Christmas Eve special by going above and beyond, spoiling all of her children and grandchildren with piles of presents, Christmas dessert, and laughter.
Lorie kept a strong Catholic faith, attending Prince of Peace for many years. As she grew older, she found comfort in her local churches at Holy Trinity and Saint Paul's. They would come and provide mass for her and the residents of the Evergreen Community. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Deacon Steuart Holland, his wife Marsha, and the lovely ladies of St. Paul's for the care and service provided to Lorie in the last years of her life. The family would also like to thank the staff of Evergreen Community, who loved her like family, for their hugs, care and kindness they showed Lorie.
Lorie was preceded in death by her husband, Steven Stroh Senior; her son, Steven Stroh Jr.; her mother, Thelma Lavery; her father, James Lavery; her grandmother, Irene Kley; her aunt, Nellie Kenaga; and her uncle, Bill Kenaga.
She is survived by her brother, Charles Lavery (Darlene); her daughter, Stacey Stroh-Bledsoe (Warren); her grandchildren, James Stroh, Colleen Payne (Christian), Amber Stroh (Nathan), Jeremy Stroh (Kasey), and Colby Stroh; her great-grandchildren, Avery Stroh, Sophia Stroh, Lila Stroh, Brinleigh Meyer, arriving soon baby boy Stroh, Noah Stroh, Everleigh Stroh; and her nephew, Michael Lavery.
