Lupe was born to Tony and Grace Lopez in Kearney, Nebraska. She was one of 15 children, four of which would pass away in childhood. The family followed the crops and would later settle in Niles, California. To supplement the family income, Lupe dropped out of high school and worked in the canneries. When World War II broke out, she worked for the Bay Area Bus Company, transporting busses and later as a mechanics assistant. She enjoyed attending big band dances of the era and roller skating with her friends. This is where she met her future husband, Charles W. Schroeder. He was a great skate-dancer and speed skater. They met in '46, were engaged in '47, and married in '48. They would have one son, Charles J. Schroeder, born September 15, 1951.
In 1952, they moved to Missouri, in search of better employment. Her husband would later retire from Ford Motor Company after 30 years. They traveled extensively until Charles passed away in 2015. She received great pleasure from working in her yard, garden, and participating in the Liberty, Missouri, AUX 4043 V.F.W. with her husband.
She leaves her sister, Doris Ziegler, brother, Manuel Lopez, godson, Danny Lopez (Ida), and many nieces and nephews in California.
In Missouri, she leaves her son, Charles J. Schroeder, daughter-in-law, Karen E. Hall, granddaughters, Alicia Zaragoza (David) and Maralie Patterson-Lukens; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Adriana Zaragoza and Cali Lukens; nieces, Betty Cooper and Sabetha Davis, nephews, William Davis, Ken Davis, and Dusty Goppert.
