

Mac Salazar, 91 of KCMO, passed away March 22, 2016 at his son’s home in Gladstone. A visitation will be held 5-7 pm and a Rosary at 7 pm on Tues, March 29 at McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood KCMO. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am on Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church, 2544 Madison KCMO, with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Kansas City KS. Mac was born Feb 28, 1925 in Ellsworth, KS to Pomposo and Genoveva Salazar. He attended Clara Barton Elementary School in Argentine and Argentine Middle School. During his teenage years, Mac earned the nickname “Rocky” at the Argentine Boxing Club. Mac worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps building the air strip at Leavenworth. During World War II, He proudly served in the Army with the 882 Field Artillery Battalion.
After the war, Mac worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 42 years and was a founding member of the American Legion Post 213 of Argentine, KS. He valued and stressed education. An inspiration to so many through his kindness and generosity, Mac was the embodiment of his mantra, “Kill them with kindness”.
Mac is survived by his wife of 70 years, Velia; sons, Mac Salazar, Jr. (Elaine), Tony Salazar (Denise), Arthur Salazar (Abigail), Carlos Salazar (Katherine), and Robert Salazar; daughters, Mary Hernandez (Jesse), Virginia Bellis (Steve), Irene Caudillo (Ryan), and Irma Robinson (Doug); his brother, John O.
