Mrs. Sizemore, who went by Marcie, was born March 3, 1928 in Fort Atkinson, IA, and was of proud Czechoslovakian descent. Marcie was a member of Visitation Parish in Kansas City. Marcie was preceded in death by her husband, Alton R. Sizemore of Kansas City; her parents, Charles and Mary Kupka, Ft. Atkinson, IA; two sons in law, James Latenser and Richard Long, and a grandson, Preston Charles Smith, Frederick, MD. She was also preceded in death by brothers Marvin, Mark, and Myles Kupka, sisters Mildred Straka, Marjorie Leibold, and Madonna Vine.
She leaves behind seven daughters, Victoria Long; Robin Sizemore; Elizabeth Siebert, Jeff; Christine DeLaRosa, Frank; Melinda Day, Tim; Ramona Latenser; and Nicole Smith, along with fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She also leaves behind sisters Mabel Schwamman, Maxine Brincks and Joanne Gerleman; sisters in law Ramona Sizemore and Rhumelle Sizemore, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Marcie was a devoted volunteer, participating in her women’s guild supporting disabled children, the Visitation community garden, and the St. Vincent de Paul thrift shop for many years. She was civic minded and worked elections at local voter precincts. Marcie enjoyed playing scrabble and working jigsaw puzzles, both of which her daughters grew up learning and appreciating. In fact, there was always a jigsaw in the works in her home to which any family member, friend or visitor was welcome to sit down to. At the mention of Scrabble, she was always ready to play and determined to win. She was an avid gardener and bingo player. Many loving hours were filled babysitting and visiting with her grandchildren, and she always looked forward to biennial family reunion trips to the beach in South Carolina.
She also loved baking, especially at the holidays when she would make kolaches, a fruit filled Czechoslovakian pastry, and her well liked and remembered rum balls.
A loving mother to the end, Marcie taught her daughters how to love generously and selflessly no matter the circumstances. She will be terribly missed but remembered fondly by all who knew her.
