Obituary of Margaret Ann Freeman "Peggy"
Margaret Ann (Massman) Freeman, 84, of Prairie Village, KS, passed away on May 4, 2022. Peggy was born in Kansas City, MO, on December 31, 1938, to Cecelia (Nangle) and Henry Joseph Massman, Jr., the youngest of five children. Peggy married Eugene Frederick Freeman, Jr. on November 18, 1961, at Visitation Church in Kansas City and enjoyed 57 beautiful years together. Peggy and Gene had immense love and pride for their five children and their spouses: Eugene Fredrick “Bud” Freeman, III (Ann), Laurence Wade Freeman (Susan), Thomas Henry Freeman (Molly), Paul Jarrel Freeman (Stephanie), and Nancy Cecelia Wilkerson (Grant). The Freemans celebrated with loving joy their seventeen grandchildren: Danielle, Gene, Tommy (Sydnie), Cate (Spencer), Shannen, Meyer (Hannah), Laurence, Paul, Mary B., Bobby, Henry, Annie Kate, Frank, Jacquelyn, Margaret, Mary, and Cecelia. They will look down with loving care from heaven when young Gene marries Moira Allison in November of 2022, and young Bobby weds Hannah Arnspiger in December of 2022. During the last few years of her life, Peggy’s greatest happiness, shared by Gene from heaven above, were their great-grandchildren: Mary Grace Freeman, Robert Meyer Freeman, Jr., Thomas Henry Freeman, III. Cate and Spencer Kulscar are expecting their first child in July. Peggy graduated from Notre Dame de Sion in Kansas City and then earned her undergraduate degree and Master’s (cum laude) in Education from Newton College of the Sacred Heart, which merged with Boston College in 1975. Peggy loved her Roman Catholic faith and was extremely devoted to Christ. She celebrated Mass daily at St. Ann’s Church (until the pandemic struck) and prayed the Rosary every day as a member of the Ladies of Charity. Among Peggy’s many passions were the students at St. Ann School, Rockhurst High School, Notre Dame de Sion, and St. Teresa’s Academy. She invested decades of volunteerism in the schools so close to her heart. In addition, Peggy faithfully cared for the Belles of the American Royal (BOTAR) as a benefactor and volunteer. Her love of the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs, and sports in general, was immeasurable. Peggy is survived by her children, their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, John T. Massman, Jr. and his wife, Sue; along with her brothers and sisters-in-law, Maggie Freeman, Ann (Freeman) Bammer and her husband, Jim; William Freeman and his wife, Connee; as well as many nieces and nephews (and grand-nieces and grand-nephews).
