Margaret Evelyn Masel

Born to German parents who immigrated to New York as teenagers, Peg’s family embodied the American dream. She grew up in Brooklyn and Queens, and attended the City College of New York where she met the man of her dreams. She married Carl Walter Masel in 1965, and the two city kids moved to Toronto, Detroit, Denver then Kansas City, led by Carl’s growing business career. When Carl passed unexpectedly at age 36, Peg found herself a single mom with four kids under the age of ten. The event revealed an inner strength and resiliency that beamed like an inner light - a mom super power. With the support of her church family, she raised four kids, Scott, Robin, Christine and Holly, in a loving and thoughtful way that revealed their talents, passions and purpose. Rooted in her faith, her focus on kindness, morality, duty, and joy allowed her to cheer their every success, support every challenge, and encourage each one to find their own life adventure. It is a legacy that lives on today.

Peggy was a steadfast Christian and loved her Westridge Christian Church family. She also enjoyed reading, art, history, and had a life-long love of learning. She put herself through school and became a paralegal at Stilley & Fowler law firm and later worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in Downtown KC. She and Carl joined Gideons International and she continued working with the organization for over four decades, sharing Jesus’ message of hope and love. But her passion was family- and each of her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren provided boundless delight and pride. She developed a unique and loving relationship with her nephew Bill whom she loved like a son, and shared favorite moments with her brother Wally and wife Germane, cousin Al and Ro Schlesinger, at the seashore in Montauk, NY.

Loved and admired by many, Peg is preceded in death by her husband Carl Masel, her parents Willie and Meta Tautz and wife Rita, and brother Bill Tautz. Peg is survived by her brother Wally Tautz and wife Germane, brother-in-law Walt Masel and wife Barbara, son Scott Masel and wife Laura, daughter Robin Trafton and husband Terry, daughter Christine Olson and husband Evan, and daughter Holly Masel and husband Chris. She is adored by her eight grandchildren, who knew her as ‘Oma’, Olivia, Abby, Willie, Andrew, Sienna, Anabelle, Ezra and Ben.

A memorial service will be held at Newcomers Floral Hills Funeral Home on Friday, June 18, 2021. 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO, 64133. Visitation starts at 10am and service at 11:30am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to The Gideon's International(https://www.gideons.org/donate), City Union Mission (Kansas City) or the Show Me Christian Youth Home; each are organizations that Peg supported for decades.
