A private memorial service for the family will be held Tuesday, May 28th at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home.
Margie, as she was known to friends, was born February 26, 1931 to Gordon Fisher and Belle Chaffey Fisher. She graduated from Southwest High School and received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Kansas. She was married in 1952 to Richard S. O’Neill (Dick) and they had four children, Richard S. O’Neill Jr., Mary Colleen O’Neill, Tamara Anne O’Neill and N. Jeffrey O’Neill. Margie’s passion was her family. She was the consummate mother from sunrise to sunset, ensuring that her children and husband, Dick, had 3 beautiful meals every day coupled with exceptional personal attention given to each family member.
She loved gardening in her stately home at West 57th Terrace and Ward Parkway. Bird feeders, flowers and repelling rabbits were addressed daily by Margie nurturing her gardens. Margie was a hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman with her dear father and friend, Gordon Fisher. The father and daughter duo were inseparable companions, especially during her formative years. Thus, Margie became quite independent and developed considerable backbone.
Her involvement with the Junior League of Kansas City was a constant conversation and anchor in her life. She also spearheaded and managed a Book Club, Garden Club and an Investment Club. As a lover of History and The Arts, she deeply valued being a Docent, for many years at The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art.
Margie was a voracious reader preferring non-fiction books. She carried a smile 24/7 and was a constant example of grace and decorum. This was Margie, loved by many!
Margie is survived by her son, Rick and wife, Irina, daughter, Colleen, daughter, Tammy and husband, Warren Williams and son, Jeff and wife, Janna; by her grandchildren, Richard O’Neill III and wife, Nicole, Barrett O’Neill and fiancé, Sierra, Weslynn and husband, Ryan Arndt, Brooks Williams and wife, Danielle, Brennan and husband, Andrew Watts, Halle O’Neill, Kyle O’Neill and Carter O’Neill; by her great-grandchildren, Tristan O’Neill, Maverick O’Neill, Zander O’Neill, Harper O’Neill and Willow Williams.
Margie and Dick were blessed with many lovely friends that created the fabric of our lives. Much was learned, loved and treasured!
