

Marie Nigro Cascio, 96, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, October, 13, 2015. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at St.Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes, Kansas City, MO, with burial following in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2015 at St. Thomas More where the Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas More Catholic Church or to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.
Marie worked with her husband, Ben at 800 Kansas Avenue, Kansas City, KS. The store was given to them by her father, George Nigro, in 1936. In 1951, Mr. & Mrs. Cascio created Cascio’s Food Market in Kansas City, MO where they worked as a team to build one of the largest stores in the State of Missouri. Marie was also active with Cadast Investment Company, developing shopping centers in the greater Kansas City area. She had worked since she was 13 years old in the food business. The grocery business and her family were her true vocations.
Marie was preceded in death by her father, George and mother, Kate Nigro; her sister, Fennie Mangiaracina and her husband John; her brother, Tony Nigro and his wife Lucy; her brother-in-law, Santo Smiroldo. She is survived by her children, Victor Cascio and his wife Lisa, Rosemary Bothwell and her husband Ron, Kathleen Totta and her husband Anthony; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Smiroldo; brother-in-law, Ross Cascio and his wife Clarene.
