

Marjorie A. “Marge” Duncan-Dean was born March 23, 1928 in Richards, Missouri to parents, Samuel Duncan and Almetta Nelson. She went to be with the love of her life, Lester, on February 8, 2015. She graduated from East High School in Kansas City in 1945 and then Drury University in 1949. Marjorie was married to Harold Hammond and they had one son, Harold Hammond, Jr. She followed her passion for education by teaching in Kansas City, Kansas schools from 1956 through 1959 and in the Johnson County School District from 1959 to 1963. She completed her Master’s Degree in 1961. She was Dean of Girls at Lehigh High School in California from 1964 to 1967. In 1968, she wed former Caterpillar dealer and real estate entrepreneur, Lester Dean, Sr.
Marjorie Dean expressed her artistic penchant as a talented crafter and seamstress. Her benevolent spirit was expressed through community involvement. She generously supported many local and national organizations, including the Lake Lotawana Community Club, Nelson Art Gallery, American Heart Association, Special Olympics, National Sheriff’s Association, Kid Wish Network, City Union Mission, Disabled Veterans, Wounded Warrior and local youth sports.
Marjorie Dean’s beautiful presence will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She leaves behind her son, Harold Hammond, Jr., and five stepchildren, Lorelei Dean, Melanie Dean, Linda Dean-Kennedy, Lester Dean, Jr., and Paul Dean. Grandchildren include Raquel Barnes, who was more like a daughter, Jeremiah Dean, Jacob Summers, Stephanie Summers, Keena Dean, Spencer Dean, Asher Dean, Lauren Handley and Shea Handley. Great-grandchildren are Jordan Berry, Morgan Berry, Tyler Barnes and Bella Dean.
