

Martha “Marty” Galleher Cox, of Kansas City, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2011 of natural causes. Marty was preceded in death by her husband, L. E. (Bud) Cox. She is survived by her three daughters, Linda Hawley of Kansas City, Betsy Cropley of Boulder, Colorado, Jinny O’Donnell, and her husband, Terry, of Sedalia, Missouri, her Swiss son Peter Blattmann, and his wife Ina of Wadenswil, 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Marty Galleher Cox was born on May 13, 1916, in Delaware, Ohio, to Walter Brooks and Ada Scott May Galleher. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio, where she was initiated into Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity. After graduation from college in the late 1930s, she began working in the KKG Central Office in Columbus, Ohio. Clara Pierce, then the Executive Secretary for KKG, asked Marty to become a field secretary. Marty agreed and found that she loved visiting the chapters and working with the young women of Kappa. Marty traveled for Kappa until she was married to Bud Cox in January of 1943. They were married for 65 years. She was a teacher at heart and a great leader. She was a camp counselor during the summers of her college days where she developed a great love of the outdoors. When her daughters were old enough she would take them on long hikes and many canoe trips over their young lives. She was a Girl Scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher and a loyal member of the Country Club United Methodist Church and choir for 65 years. She was a patient, kind, loving wife and mother ~ adored by her family and admired by all. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 15 at Country Club United Methodist Church, 400 W. 57th Street in Kansas City, Missouri.
