Visitation will be 10:00 - 11:00 am Friday, September 27th, followed by funeral services at 11:00 am, at the McGilley Antioch Chapel. Burial will follow services in White Chapel Cemetery.
Mary Ruth was born in Lee's Summit, MO on July 9, 1929 to Orville and Rebecca Hartley. She had one brother, Robert. After graduating from Lee's Summit High School, she went to work at Katz Drug Company where she met her husband, James Joseph Bateman. Jim and Mary Ruth had two daughters, Gayle and Cheryl.
After the girls were born, Mary Ruth was a stay-at-home mother. She enjoyed her church, sewing, cooking, gardening and tending to her flower beds. When she returned to work, she was a bookkeeper at a tax firm and worked in the office of Reynolds Metals Company until she retired. After retirement she traveled all over the world with friends. She enjoyed going to the Royals games and to the theater.
Mary Ruth was very active in her church (Northminster Presbyterian Church) and served as an elder as well as serving in numerous positions in the women's organization. She also volunteered regularly at the Clay County Clothes Closet, the Folly Theatre and was a Youth Friend where she helped children learn to read.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother. She is survived by her daughters, Gayle Lippincott (Dan) and Cheryl Woolley (Rex), four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
