

Mary Kathryn Jensen died January 22, 2017. She was born September 27, 1919 in Wichita, Ks. and was adopted as an infant by Snowden and E. Irene (Spitler) Parkinson of Maize, Ks. She graduated from Maize High School and Wichita Business College. She wed Winton D. Jensen December 24, 1942 in Lincoln, Ne. They were married for 74 years, making their home in Leawood, Ks. for more than 50 years. He predeceased her on January 2, 2017. She is survived by her three children. son Bill Jensen (Barb), daughter Cynthia Claus (Bob), daughter Winona Gibbs (Don), six grandchildren Tim Jensen (Marcela), Rebecca Jensen Bruhl (Aaron), Kate Claus (Sean Reel), John Claus, Roger Gibbs (Deb), and Curtis Gibbs (Christy), and five great grandchildren Calvin Jensen, Elliot Bruhl, Zoe Bruhl, Cormac Reel and Oscar Reel.
Mary K. was a devoted wife and mother. She was active in her children’s lives, serving as a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader, room mother, and PTA officer, among other roles. She was also active for many years in the Leawood Women’s Club. After her children were grown, she worked with Win in his business Jensen Engineering Company until his retirement. She also joined Win in obtaining a pilot’s license and together they flew all over the U.S. Both were active members in the Kansas Pilots Assoc. and U.S. Pilots Assoc., serving as officers and receiving Founders Awards from the K.P.A. In addition to flying, the couple enjoyed dancing throughout their years together. They belonged to several dance clubs, including Leawoodites, Stardusters and the Four Seasons. Mary K.’s smile and radiance for life will be missed.
