Mary Jane Mowery, formerly of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away on January 7, 2026, at the age of 91. She was born on July 27, 1934, in Cherryvale, Kansas, where she grew up until moving to Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 12. Mary lived in various parts of Kansas City, including Westport, Overland Park, Raymore, and Lee’s Summit.
She worked as a cytotechnologist for 35 years and then enjoyed an active retirement with volunteer work at Children’s Mercy Hospital.
She was actively involved in several churches and grew deep in a relationship with the Lord Jesus, most especially at Vox Dei Community in Belton, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. (Pat) Mowery; her parents, Roy and Winifred McMahon; her brother, Richard McMahon; and a granddaughter, Amanda V. Seaboldt.
She is survived by a large family group of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren including daughters Pamela (Walt) Cecil, Janis Gaston; stepdaughters Carol Bross, Teresa Dickson, Patsy Stroth; Grandchildren Jeremiah (Shoney) LaFountain, Kimberly (Caleb) Kollmeyer, Jonathan (Susanne) Cecil, Liz Cecil, Chris (Libby) Ireland, Brent Welch, Amy Stephens, Paige Moran, Brooks Rice and Matt Rice; and a wonderfully fun and lively group of great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Mount Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. Visitation with the family will begin at 9 am. Interment to follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery.
