Mary Jill Reid

Jill was a graduate of Bishop O’Hara High School, Class of 1978. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Avila University, Class of 1985. In 1985, Jill married Mark Reid; the marriage later ended in divorce.

A dedicated nurse, Jill worked as a psychiatric nurse at Research Psychiatric Center and later served as a call-in nurse at Children’s Mercy Hospital. In June 1999, Jill welcomed her daughter, Megan Wood, who preceded her in death in September 2021.

Jill is survived by her father, James V. Underwood; her brothers, Robert R. Underwood and Mark F. Underwood; and her sister-in-law, Candace Underwood. She is also survived by her nephews, Spencer and Justin Underwood, and Alek and Nick Underwood; as well as Elizabeth Underwood, many first cousins, and extended family. Jill was preceded in death by her mother, Donna Rae Underwood; her brothers, Michael J. Underwood and Steven J. Underwood; and her daughter, Megan Wood.

Loving, thoughtful, compassionate, and kind-hearted, Jill will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was an avid reader who enjoyed traveling, participating in school activities with Megan, and sharing time and experiences with her four nephews and ten cousins.

Jill was diagnosed with cancer approximately five years ago. She faced her illness with determination and courage, and she received excellent care from Research Hospice in her final months.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 27, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.

A Memorial Service will follow on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., also at McGilley State Line Chapel.

A Committal Service will take place Friday, March 27, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO 64138.
