Born into a large and loving family on May 2nd, 1936, in Reeds Springs, Missouri, to Corban and Nora (Carr) Whipple. She lived a life of many great experiences and heartfelt moments. A beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend – Mary touched countless lives with her warmth, generosity, and quiet grace.
Mary was preceded in death by many of her loved ones: her parents – Corban and Nora Whipple; her two sons – David Henry Wieland Jr and Robert Roy Wieland; a great-grandson, Izaiah Salyer; her siblings – Lois Miller, Margie Cameron, Margaret Burks, Ida Mae Webber, Lorine Roberts, David Whipple, Charles Whipple, Lillian Woods, Wilma Ptacek; and many more dear friends and relatives. Though her heart endured many losses, her spirit remained unshaken, her faith unbroken.
Mary is survived by her husband and the love of her life, David H. Wieland, Senior, her sister Pauline Long, five granddaughters – Cinthia Ashley (Gary), Angela Hull (William), Amie Wieland-Fenimore (Gary), Christina Martin (Thomas) and Terrah Wieland (Neal), and – each of whom she cherished for their individuality and character. As the family grew to include 17 great-grandchildren - Savannah Leamon (Zach), Christopher Ashley, Michael Smith (Beth), Madalaine Ashley, Jaydon Piburn, Zackery Smith, Evan Wieland, Joslin Martin, Emily Piburn, Alana Lovelace, Nathaniel Gervol, Conner Smith, Briana Rivers, Samantha Lasure, Sklyer Lasure, Soraya Martin, and two great-great-granddaughters - Averie Leamon and Harper Leamon. Mary formed special connections with each one, making every child feel seen, valued, and deeply loved.
For over 70 years, Mary stood beside her loving husband, David Wieland, in a marriage that defined true partnership. Their steady, enduring love was the foundation upon which their family was built. Their bond served as a guiding light for generations.
Mary was a woman of deep love and quiet strength. She expressed her care and generosity to those around her through the meals she lovingly prepared, the stories she shared, and the quilts she carefully stitched — each one a tangible symbol of her affection. Her kitchen was not just a place for cooking, but a sanctuary where love was served daily.
Mary’s home was always open, her arms always welcoming. She believed in family not as an obligation, but as a blessing — one to nurture, to protect, and to celebrate. Her legacy lives on in the traditions she passed down, in the lessons she taught, and in the love that continues to ripple through her family.
Mary Wieland was not only the matriarch of her family — she was their teacher, counselor, protector, and most cherished friend. She will be deeply missed, but her presence will be felt in every shared memory, every quilt passed down, and every carefully prepared meal.
We say goodbye with heavy hearts, but also with gratitude for a life so beautifully lived and so generously shared. Thank you, Mary – Grandma – for the love that shaped us. You will forever be the heart of our family. Until we meet again.
