Modest was born in Kansas City, MO to Augustine Rivas and Petra Martinez Rivas on February 24th, 1929. Growing up, as the youngest sibling, she was kept safe and cared for. She spent her days helping father pick herbs and vegetables from their backyard, helping her mother with household chores and spent her days with friends. In her youth, her name fit her well, she was soft spoken, gentle, and kind. She was introduced to her soulmate, John, by her friend and he fell for her. They were married on July 19th of 1947. She was part of the Guadalupanas of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and attended Catholic church as long as she could. She and John lived a full life together from building a family, vacationing with loved ones, and hosting friends in their home. For the people who knew her, they knew she was a homemaker for her family. She fed them, taught them morals, celebrated victories, and loved them well. She is known for her delicious meals, long phone conversations, having a creative mind, a beautiful singing voice, a contagious laugh, and the warmest, most calming embrace that you ever had.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Compos; her parents, Augustine and Petra Rivas; one son, John Edward (Johnny Boy) Compos; two sisters, Frances Rivas and Marian Banda, two brothers, Edward (Lalo) Rivas and Augustine (Tino) Rivas, and one granddaughter, Monica Pendleton.
