

Myrtie Gourley, 84, Overland Park, Kan., passed away July 22, 2016. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Visitation at 1 p.m. Burial at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Myrtie was born in Wheaton, Mo.on September 24, 1931, before moving to Colorado with her parents, Dewey and Hazel Daffern. She met and married Gene Gourley in Lamar, Colo., on June 24, 1951, when working as a switchboard operator. While raising their family in Kansas City, Mo., she was involved with P.T.A, a Cub Scout den mother, president of KC Lupus Foundation, Treasurer of the Tri-County Art League, member of the Red Bridge Baptist Church, and also supported many charities, including supporting two children overseas. She was an amazing seamstress, artist and homemaker. She enjoyed music, gardening, traveling, animals and current events. Myrtie was preceded in death by husband, Gene in 2001, two sisters, Merl Cook and E-Vona Lee Thrall, and brother, Gary. She is survived by her son, Randy Gourley and wife Debbie; her daughter, Linda Gourley and husband Jamie Chapman; her brothers, Vernie Joe, Charles and Doug Daffern; sister, Barbara Smith; and three grandchildren, Cari Lang, Emily Parrish (Tom) and Bryan Gourley (Abra), and three great grandchildren, Casi, Cougar and Emerson Anne.
