Nancy was born at Trinity Lutheran hospital on November 19, 1950, in Kansas City, Missouri. She grew up in Independence, MO, and attended Van Horn high school where she was a member of the cheerleading team and was voted Homecoming Queen. She attended the University of Central Missouri where she served as Treasurer of the Tri-Sigma sorority and earned a degree in Social Work. Described by friends as an “eternal student” she later returned to school to earn a master’s degree in special education from the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) which she put to use serving the Jefferson City Public School system for over 25 years.
Nancy is survived by her sons, Jason Reeves (KariLynn) and Daniel Reeves (Sahar), and her beloved grandchildren, Zachary Reeves, Noah Reeves, Lincoln Reeves, and Lennox Reeves. She also leaves behind her brother, Ron Windler (Carol), and his family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Hazel Windler.
Nancy’s love extended to all living creatures, and over the years, she rescued many fur babies: three dogs (Guinevere, Miles and her beloved German Shepherd, Kavek); five cats (Pudgie, Sesha, Kidd, Luna and most recently, Kat). She also welcomed an Iguana, Guinea Pigs, a baby rabbit, fish and a multitude of hamsters in her home over the years. Her passion for animals mirrored her deep respect for all of God’s creations.
Nancy’s faith was central to her life. She was confirmed at Messiah Lutheran Church in Independence, Missouri, on April 12, 1968, where her confirmation verse, Isaiah 54:10, reflected her steadfast belief in God’s enduring kindness and peace. She believed deeply in the goodness of all human beings and she cared for those in need. A free spirit at heart, Nancy often felt she belonged to a different time, longing for the freedom and connection that nature provided. She wished to be cremated so her ashes could be carried wherever the wind blows, a fitting tribute to her boundless spirit.
A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Newcomer’s Floral Hills Funeral Home in Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 10:00 AM. A small reception for family and friends will take place at 11:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Nancy’s memory to the ASPCA, reflecting her lifelong passion for helping animals in need.
Nancy’s legacy of love, faith, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
