Olive Marie Joggerst Britton was born in Chicago 101 years ago. Her parents, Henry and Mary Sheridan Joggerst moved to Kansas City in 1927 building a home in the Waldo area which remained in the family for 94 years. After Mary’s death Henry married Ethel Litstrom Joggerst who would become Olive’s most beloved stepmother.
She began her education at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic School, Southwest High School and on to Kansas University graduating with a degree in sociology. Olive was a proud member of Chi Omega Sorority in college and retained her membership throughout her adult life. Her first job out of college was as a flight attendant for Braniff Airlines.
After a move to El Paso Texas she married Ernest L. (Britt) Britton and began a career in healthcare administration as an office manager in a doctor’s office for almost 30 years.
When her father Henry passed away she moved back to her childhood home in Kansas City to help care for her mother Ethel.
Her parents, husband and her brother Owen (Jessie) Joggerst predeceased her.
Olive’s fun loving personality, generous and supportive spirit will be dearly missed by many friends, neighbors and family including her nieces Deborah (Neil) and Sarah (Barry), her nephew Patrick (Terry), seven great nieces and nephews and three great, great nieces and nephew.
Visitation will be Tuesday morning, August 31st from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, address 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. A Graveside Committal Service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Hill & Calvary Cemetery located at 6901 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri.
