Opal Jean was born to Roy and Golda “Goldie” Eslinger on April 21, 1929 in El Dorado Springs, Missouri. She was the 4th child of 6 (Marie, Marvin, Helen, Opal, Leta, and Nellie). Opal Jean graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1947.
Opal Jean worked as a bank teller at the start of her career and later earned multiple promotions, setting her apart as a true leader of that time. She worked as a Senior Vice President of Blue Ridge Bank until she retired in 1989.
Opal Jean was a devoted member of Norfleet Baptist Church for many years, actively participating in Bible studies and women’s groups. She also volunteered in the children’s ministry and contributed to the church’s operations by counting the weekly offerings.
Opal Jean cherished spending time with her family and friends, whether dining out or enjoying a leisurely walk at the mall. She also enjoyed time at home doing crossword puzzles or playing solitaire and she loved pretty paper to write on. One of her favorite pastimes was playing the penny and nickel slots at the casino. Opal Jean also enjoyed traveling with her niece, Jean Goheen, whom she loved deeply. She was stylish and always kept her nails well-manicured. She loved to go shopping and getting her hair done was a weekly must!
Opal Jean took great pride in her daughter, son and daughter-in-law, often boasting about how much she loved them whenever she had the chance. Known lovingly as "Grandma" and "Gigi," she offered unconditional love and support to her granddaughter and great-grandchildren over the years. Her legacy of strength and determination will live on in each of her “kids” as she would call them.
Opal Jean is survived by her two children, Cheryl Giambrone (Harry) and Gary Boyd (Nancy); one granddaughter, Rebecca (Christopher); and two great-grandchildren.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Cross Creek Assisted Living, Legacy Healthcare, and Ascend Hospice for their exceptional and compassionate care. The family will be forever thankful for the love, kindness and dignity they provided.
A private service will be held. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family asks that you honor Opal Jean’s memory by spending quality time with those you love.
