Andy was born on June 20, 1970, on Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, to Mike and Priscilla Crow. He grew up in Olathe, Kansas and moved to Salina, Kansas in high school. Andy graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Kansas State University in 1992, with a Bachelors of Arts in Radio & Television.
Andy met the love of his life at K-State, during his freshman year. He often referred to Heidi as his "Good Lady Wife," and his boys as "the Young Squires." Andy and Heidi were married in 1994, and just celebrated 30 years of marriage. They both know how special it was to truly find their person so early in life. When Andy and Heidi started their family, in Andy’s words, they were “nine kinds of excited” to bring their two boys into the world.
Andy was a video and film editor for 30 years. As an editor, he considered himself a film and video storyteller. Andy was enthusiastic about his work and after 15 years in the business he started his own freelance editing company, AC Creative. Andy was known in the industry for his artistic talent, creativity and kindness.
Andy started playing guitar at a young age and thus began his love for rock and roll. He joined every school band, and especially loved performing and connecting people through music. Andy’s college band took many forms throughout the years, but his first and longest-lasting band with lifetime friends was called Dr. Zeus. While in college Andy and his friends also created a heavy metal radio show called "Metal Head" where they would share their love of metal every Saturday morning.
After moving to Kansas City after college, Andy reignited his childhood love of playing hockey. Andy became the very best Adult League C-Team player he could be, and he played on many teams over the years. Everyone knew Andy by his signature cackle as he tore down the ice with his hair flying in the wind. Andy was loved by the hockey community and he was passionate about Have a Skate with Bob (HASB-KC) pancreatic cancer organization, which also supported him through his battle with the same disease.
Andy was a loving and supportive father and became involved in many of his boys’ activities. He became their soccer coach, supported their lacrosse games, and shared his love of music and hockey with them. One thing that always connected them was their life-long service in the boy scouts. Andy went on many camping trips, became their scoutmaster, and helped them achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. As a scoutmaster and Eagle coordinator, Andy impacted the lives of many members of Troop 265, as a mentor and leader for so many young men.
Andy never knew a stranger, and always had something witty or clever to say. Andy was a gifted communicator and could make you feel seen and heard in any interaction. He constantly asked questions to learn more about life and the people in it. Andy was an optimist and he loved sharing his stories with all who would listen. Andy often worried more about other people than he did for himself. While Andy’s cancer diagnosis was terminal, he never let it show and never complained. Andy always put more into the world than he took from it.
Andy is survived by his wife of 30 years, Heidi Crow; his sons, Jacob and Lucas Crow; his parents Mike and Priscilla Crow; his sister, Sara Crow; as well as nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
Andy was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
The family would like to thank Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care, as well as the oncology and palliative care professionals with the University of Kansas Cancer Center, for the care and support they showed Andy throughout his cancer journey and during his final days.
