Phyllis was such a loving and wonderful person! She always had a big hug for anyone that she met. She was a great friend to myself, my brother, and my parents, especially my mother who has been gone for many years. Phyllis will be missed; but I know that the lights in heaven just got a whole lot brighter.

Phyllis was a dear, dear woman who was more than just a babysitter to me and my brother. She often joked that she was another grandmother to me and Miguel, but I never took it as a joke. I feel blessed that she chose us to be a part of her family.  She never failed to bring a smile to my face every time we spoke. She always sent a birthday card filled with a heart warming message. I have so many saved that I will cherish and reread just to feel her love again. And she had such deep love to give the world. She was fearless in expressing that love to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Like so many people she has touched, I will miss her dearly.

How can I say goodbye to the woman who showed me love and joy in life? Who bandaged my banged up knees and paddled my behind when I deserved it (which was NEVER)? The one who got three little boys to grow to be strong men? Who taught us patience and passion for what Father God placed within each of us? You loved each of us in our own ways. You loved so many with a love and joy that seemed to have no end. You were outnumbered as the only girl in our party of five for many years, yet you always seemed to have us on your side. We still love you, Mom, to the moon and back, oodles and bunches. Thank you Mom, for helping an aspiring mad scientist to become a man of God who tries to love people just a bit like you did. You will always be a part of Hal, Jackie and I; along with so many other lives you touched. Be at peace in Jesus' arms.

I've never known anyone as warm and kind as Phyllis. She always focused on the good in life. I'm thankful to have known her. Godspeed, Phyllis. Rest well.

I could never choose just one memory of my sweet, tender, loving grandmother. From her daily Bible study to sitting out on the sidewalk, saying hello to every person who passed (whether she knew them or not), my grandmother was someone who lived out her faith every day. She loved every single person she met, often making space in her family for new sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and other family members. She collected loved ones and was a careful keeper of that collection, frequently calling, sending cards, and, in her younger years, visiting her friends and family. 

I've never shared a more special relationship than with my grandmother. Many, many times I felt that no one understood me quite like she did, as though we shared a bond I could have with no other. I spent most of my formative years learning from her. She showed me how to love, how to persevere, the importance of faith, and so much more. She was truly one of my best friends and I am so thankful that I get to carry on her legacy through my own feeble attempts at loving others and keeping faith. Her love and care shaped me forever.

I have the fondest memories of Phyllis as the kindest, most loving babysitter for my brother and I while growing up. She maintained that joy and heartfelt care throughout my entire life and even extended it to my own daughter when she was born. She continued to send me birthday cards for years with more X's and O's than I've received from anyone in my life. Phyllis had a beautiful soul and I can only hope to honor her memory by giving as much kindness and love to everyone in my world as she did to those in hers.
