Rae M. Pickett Swendrowski

Rae Mercedes (Dee) Swendrowski, 82, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away December 16, 2010 at home surrounded by family. A memorial service will be held Monday December 20, 2010 at Mount Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. Greeting will begin at 12noon followed by service at 1:00 p.m. Dee was born on July 13, 1928 in Kansas City, Kansas, daughter of Ethel and Griffith Pickett. She married Frank E. Swendrowski, March 19, 1952, in San Antonio Texas. Her passion was cooking, family gatherings, and gardening. She was an avid nature lover. Her greatest pleasure was having her kids and family around her. She was preceded in death by her sisters Dorothy Mangum, Lynn Gover and brothers Larry and Bill Pickett. Dee is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Frank Swendrowski; children Pamela Gabel (Chuck) of Kingsville Missouri, John Van Alst (Melissa) of Battle Ground, Washington, Steven Swendrowski (Dottie) of San Diego, California, Teresa Sparks of Overland Park, Kansas, Mark Swendrowski of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Lisa Buddell (Pete) of Chicago, Illinois; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers Sonny Pickett (Edna), Marion Pickett (Jackie), and David Pickett; sisters Frances Amos (Hoyle) and Rosemarie Heninger; numerous nieces, many dear friends, neighbors and her beloved dog Baron.
