

Rafael Medina, age 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Monday, January 9, 2023, at VA Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on May 4, 1940.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonor and Louis Medina Sr. His sisters, Rita, Leonor (Nori), and Mercedes.
In his early career he worked at Santa Fe Railroad and Swift Meat Packaging.
Rafael (Ray) will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his sense of humor and jokes, never meeting a stranger, lending a helping hand for any project needing his expert carpentry and plumbing skills, his incredible love of cowboys and westerns and anything you needed – he had it.
In the hearts of many he will always be “KINGPIN”.
He maintained his sobriety for over 30 years through the AA program, and was a proud Patriot and US Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Schultz. Loving father to Alicia Andrews (Duane Anders), Anthony Medina (Marcellino Baldin), and Andrea Medina. Joyful grandfather of Jennifer, CJ, Gabriel, Brandon, Isabella, Timothy, Gavin and China. Great grandfather of Mercedes, Loyal and Logan.
Brother of Louis Medina, Lupe Aguilar, Manuel Medina and Robert Medina.
Further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends.
Visitation will be held 6-7 p.m., Friday, January 27 at Drexel Hall, 3301 Baltimore Ave., Kansas City, MO 64111. A Memorial Service will follow at 7 p.m.
