In my life I have been very blessed in many ways. One of those is that I have never experienced losing a loved one. People that I have known that have died I didn't know well and it felt more like they just moved far away..... I haven't seen Raheel since high school, but I remember him. I remember he was kind, I remember he was smart and that his smile could light up a room. I also remember most girls having a crush on him.....
I don't have experience in death, but this time, today, for the first time I really feel it. High school was long ago, but thinking back to the life of this man it now feels as if it were yesterday. I feel pain because I know what a wonderful man the world lost, and I don't know why. I feel anguish when I think of a future without a person like him in it. The world lost a great man, one that we couldn't afford to lose. I offer my prayers to his family and I offer my tears to his memory. Raheel, you will be missed by so many.

To the family of Raheel Morani, 

I will know Raheel by his sweet pictures on Facebook with his sister, and by the influential quotes he once posted, but to be honest, I never met Raheel. And I never met the one mutual friend that we have in common over Facebook either. But what the three of us do have in common is that we are all in medical school, that we all have a passion and love for life and friends, and are on a mission to heal and help the world as best as we can.  I am also studying in the Caribbean on a different island that Raheel was on.  When our mutual friend posted an "RIP Raheel" status on Facebook, I sent her my regrets and asked what had happened to her fellow Medical student friend (Raheel). All we know, is that he is not with us anymore, and this greatly saddens me because, even though I never met him, to hear of a fellow Caribbean medical student, who had finished his work on the island and had started his rotations back in the USA, sincerely made me proud and happy for him. 

My family is also very close. And not a day goes by that I am not thankful for my brothers and sisters.  Reading about Raheel's love for his family, I can pray for your peace and for your health in this very tough time.  There are probably no words that can amount to the way the family is feeling, but please know, that from someone like me - a Canadian studying in the Caribbean, has already been touched by Raheel and my heart is sending as much love and strength that is possible to all of you. 

I am deeply sorry for the loss of your son, for your brother, for your nephew, and for someone who I'm sure would have made an incredible friend and doctor if I had been blessed to meet him.
